Ceramic Maker
Andrew Walker is a South Yorkshire ceramic artist creating contemporary ceramics, handmade pottery, and architectural forms that explore the dialogue between structure and space. Rooted in the industrial history of Sheffield, his work evolves within two studios at Works 57, where clay becomes both vessel and sculpture.
Drawing on the graphic like geometry of mid-century buildings, his process deconstructs symmetrical shapes and sharp lines to reveal a poetic tension between form, surface, and negative space.
His work evolves from the interplay of shadow and structure — how light carves volume, how spaces between planes hold presence. In this logic, his range of architectural ceramics moves beyond function into the realm of contemplative objects. The introduction of bold, saturated pigments—tonal notes against the raw clay body—reflects his study of colour in architectural contexts, offering a striking counterpoint to the industrial palette.
