Will pottery classes be in a group environment?
If classes specifically say ‘Group Class’ in the listing they’ll be run in small groups spaced around the large work benches.
What if I feel unwell? Should I attend my lesson?
If you or someone in your household is showing signs of illness, please call or email the studio number as soon as possible and respectfully do not attend the class.
What facilities are available?
There is a shared public toilet situated next to the studio (please note- this is shared with other businesses in the building). Unfortunately, tea and coffee facilities are no longer available but please feel free to bring your own refreshments.
How often is the studio cleaned?
Equipment and desks are cleaned after every class using the appropriate products. With the whole studio being cleaned at the end of each day.
I have never done pottery before, can I still attend a class?
Yes, all classes are designed for beginners unless otherwise stated. See current classes available here.
What are the different pottery techniques you teach?
Slab Work- Clay is rolled out using a rolling pin to gain an even thickness, usually the clay is left to dry for a while before using it to cut out shapes for constructing.
Draping- Clay is rolled out and whilst damp & pliable its draped over a plaster mould to create the desired shape.
Pinching- Pots are formed into different shapes and vessels by holding a ball of clay in your hand and pinching it with your fingers. This is the ideal teaching method as an introduction to clay for all ages, especially children.
Coiling- Long thin pieces of clay are rolled out using your hands, these are then put on top of each other and pressed together to create vessels or structures. Great hands on approach where almost anything can be created.
Carving- Craft knives and pottery tools are used to carve out clay to create various items. The clay is often dried to a state of ‘leather hard’ prior to this technique being used.
What if I can’t find the right date and time class for me?
If you’re struggling to find the right date and time that suits you then please get in touch via the contact page and I’ll try to accommodate your request.
Do I need to wear special clothing?
No, just comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting clay on. Feel free to bring an apron from home as they will currently not be provided. Remember to layer up in winter. Can I book my children on a pottery class?
How long do I have to wait until I can pick up my finished pottery?
Depends on the size of your finished piece. Drying can take 2-7 days, plus firing in the kiln for up to 30-60 hours. Most pieces are ready in around 2-3 weeks after your class has finished. Please be patient.
You’ll be notified via text or email and have approximately 1 month to collect.
Pick up days- Thursdays 6pm-8pm, Saturdays 10am-1pm
