My love for Brutalism and inspiration for my new work

Vrencea Vessel- Black Stoneware

Vrencea Vessel- Black Stoneware

Architecture has always been at the forefront of my creative inspiration but time and time I am constantly drawn back to the concrete buildings that come under the realm of Brutalism. Emerging in the mid 20th century and gaining huge popularity in the 50’s & 60’s Brutalist structures popped up in many varied forms all over the world.

These iconic block-like geometric buildings hold a special place for me. I’m particularly drawn to the simplistic, graphic like quality where its construction and material is laid bare for everyone to see.

As you know from other news pieces; construction plays a huge part in my aesthetic, not only is the imposing structure itself important but the space and shadows created between these forms that are equally influential.

New larger forms will be showcased as part of various exhibitions during November.
