My Great Pottery Throw Down Challenge Week 2

At last my slab building from week 2 has finally been fired and out the kiln. It’s loosely based on a building in Tower Hamlets called Balfron Tower.

I had one major issue during drying; a huge crack appeared in the top section. It wasn’t a complete surprise as I slightly twisted it during construction. I thought I’d fire it and hope for the best (maybe filling it with grout afterwards) but I decided to take my usual approach and embrace the design mistakes making them part of the aesthetic. So I filled it with turquoise stained slip and thankfully it looks intentional.

The colour combination and textures fired as I hoped, so on the whole I’m really pleased with the result.
